Lady Trojans return to district finals

In their fourth meeting of the season, Nodaway-Holt's girls built a double-digit lead and held on late to beat Rock Port 56-52 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 16 Tournament in Graham.

The Lady Trojans avenged a narrow loss to Rock Port in the finals of the Fairfax Tournament and earned their second consecutive district finals berth.

Nodaway-Holt (21-6) scored 15 points in each of the first three quarters and led 45-33 at the end of the third. The Trojans built most of their lead in the first quarter, outscoring Rock Port 15-5.

Rock Port made a charge at Nodaway-Holt in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Trojans did enough to hang on.

Battling a shoulder injury, Nodaway-Holt sophomore Megan Rosenbohm led all scorers with 27 points.

Amanda O'Riley kicked in 15 points.

Allison Lawrence led Rock Port with 15 points. Leslie Kirkland (14 points) and Taya Lewis (11 points) also surfaced in double-figures.

Nodaway-Holt takes on Mound City Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. in a matchup of 275 co-champions. The Trojans split two regular season meetings with Mound City.

They lost in the finals of the Mound City Tournament and beat the Panthers during conference play at home.

Boys

Rock Port 45 Nodaway-Holt 44 (OT)

Nodaway-Holt's boys surrendered a five-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost a heartbreaker in overtime to No. 2 seed Rock Port 45-44 in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 16 Tournament Wednesday in Graham.

The Blue Jays outscored Nodaway-Holt 12-7 in the fourth to get it tied and won the overtime period 8-7.

The Trojans held six-point leads at the end of the first quarter and at halftime.

Rock Port advanced to play Mound City in championship game tonight at 6:30 p.m. Nodaway-Holt wrapped up its season at 18-9.

Both teams had a pair of double-figure scorers.

Rock Port was led by Chandler Farmer with 13 points. Next up was Eric Duncan with 10 points. Austin Alitz dialed up three, three-pointers to finish with nine points.

Nodaway-Holt's Derek Lemon registered a game-high 14 points. Nick Patterson totaled 12 points and nailed three three-pointers.

Brice Shamberger, Cody Schniedermeyer, Stephen Schniedermeyer and Devin Albertson all had four points.

Mound City 51 South Nodaway 48 (2OT)

The fifth-seeded Longhorns pushed top-seeded Mound City into double overtime before the Panthers prevailed with a 51-48 win in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 16 Tournament Wednesday night.

Mound City outscored South Nodaway 7-4 in the second extra session. Both teams scored four points in the first one.

The Longhorns held a six-point halftime lead, but Mound City cut it to one in the third quarter and drew even in the fourth.

Mound City plays Rock Port in the finals tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Longhorns finished at 8-15.

The Panthers made four more three-pointers and 10 more free throws in the game.

Mound City's Luke Sanders led all scorers with 23 points and connected on four of the team's seven treys.

Hayden Marrs added 10 points and made a three.

Silas Nielson led South Nodaway's attack with 14 points. Mitch Hilsabeck followed with 11 and nailed three, three-pointers.

Dakota Murphy had nine points and Dalton Murphy totaled eight.
