Hounds demolish Plattsburg in district opener

Maryville's boys opened the Class 3 District 16 Tournament Tuesday night with a resounding 75-26 win over No. 7 seed Plattsburg at Grace Gymnasium in St. Joseph.

The second-seeded Hounds outscored Plattsburg by at least 13 points in each the first three quarters to lead 65-20 at the end of the third.

Maryville finished the opening quarter ahead 17-3 and went to the half up 40-11.

The 49-point margin of victory was the largest this season, surpassing a 42-point rout of Benton Feb. 8.

With the win, The Hounds (18-7) advanced to play third-seeded Bishop LeBlond in the semifinals Thursday at 6 p.m.

Maryville had four players in double-figures and 11 of the 12 that entered the game scored at least a point.

Seniors Tyler Kenkel and Treyton Burch shared the team lead with 14 points. Juniors Ty Hilsabeck and Trent Nally each had 12 points. Jonathan Baker totaled eight points.

Hagen Snow and Mitchell Worthington had four apiece.

The Hounds made 29 field goals, only one of which was a three. They were also 16-23 at the foul line.

Plattsburg had just nine made field goals and went 5-8 at the foul line. The team's two leading scorers each had six points.

Maryville split two meetings with LeBlond during the regular season.

The Hounds won the first game 53-52 in overtime at the Cameron Tournament and lost a road game 48-35 that counted in the conference standings.
