In a potential district finals preview, the Maryville boys basketball team absorbed a 53-42 road loss to Cameron Monday night.
The Dragons mounted a 10-point halftime lead and never let Maryville back in the game during a near even second half.
Cameron connected on eight three-pointers in the game, six from sharp-shooter Carter Morrison who led all scorers with 23 points. Morrison had just three points in Cameron's 47-44 win over Maryville in the semifinals of the Cameron Tournament earlier this year.
The Hounds scored 21 points in each half, finishing below 60 for the first time in three games.
Maryville fell to 16-7 on the year, 3-3 in the MEC and had a two-game win streak snapped. The Hounds are now 0-6 against Cameron in the last three years and 0-2 in the current season.
Maryville was led in scoring by senior guard Jonathan Baker with 18 points. Tyler Kenkel tossed in nine points. Treyton Burch had six. Hagen Snow (three points), Ty Hilsabeck (two), Trent Nally (two) and Jacob Cacek (two) rounded out the scoring for the Hounds.
Along with Morrison, Cameron placed Colton Boyer (12 points) and Tyler Roberts (10 points) in double-figures. Randy Pelton had six.
Maryville wraps up the regular season Friday night with Savannah at home.
It's the final home appearance for Maryville's four seniors—Baker, Kenkel, Burch and Kyle Leslie. Maryville is 1-1 against Savannah so far this season.
Maryville begins district play Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. in St. Joseph as the No. 2 seed against No. 7 seed Plattsburg.
A district finals rematch with top-seeded Cameron would take place Saturday at 2 p.m.
