  • Cecil Darrel "Pete" Nicholas, 94, Hopkins, Missouri, died Tuesday, February 05, 2013,  at St. Francis Hospital,  Maryville, Missouri.
    Pete was born March 27, 1918, in Coburg, Iowa to Thomas Toy and Bessie Florence (Clark) Nicholas.
    When he was eighteen years old, Pete joined the Buena Vista CCC Camp #4787 in 1933, south of Burns, Oregon.  Franklin D. Roosevelt was President and responsible for starting CCC camps all over the United States.  Many of the projects built during these camps are still in use today.
    He was a retired farmer, carpenter and construction worker, having worked for the Green Bay Lumber Company, Clarinda, Iowa in the 50's and Dusenburg Construction during the 60's.
    Cecil was a member of the Hopkins Baptist Church, Hopkins, Missouri.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers Lloyd and Carl Nicholas; two sisters Opal Nicholas and Vera Mae Snodderley.
    Survivors include his daughter, Paula O'Neal, Braddyville, IA; two grandsons Andrew O'Neal, Braddyville, Aaron Nicholson and Lisa Nicholson, Clarinda, Iowa; two great grandchildren Marissa Brown and Willow Nicholson; three step-great grandchildren Amanda Bedsworth, Mikeal Carlson and Kristoffer Martinsen; two step great-greatgrandsons and a host of other friends and loved ones.
    Visitation will be 2-4 PM, Sunday, February 10, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville; where funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 11, 2013.  Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri.
