  • The Board of Directors of the Clearmont Rural Housing Corp. recently hosted an open house and ribbon cutting to celebrate the rehabilitation of a housing complex in the north Nodaway County community.
The property, which consists of 12 one-bedroom apartments, along with a community room and laundry for tenant use, was originally constructed with funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1978.
The board applied for Multi-Family Housing Preservation and Revitalization funding in 2010 and was accepted.
As a program participant, the corporation received a low-interest loan and debt deferral on an existing loan. Improvements included new metal roofs, vinyl siding, guttering, windows, steel exterior doors, storm doors, heating and cooling units, sidewalks and parking lots.
"The place just looks great," long-time Tower View complex resident Virginia Cruth said.
"The savings in energy costs will pay for the improvements," added resident David Cruth.
"I am happy to celebrate the completion of the improvements at the Clearmont Rural Housing Corp., which were made possible through participation in the Multi-Family Housing Preservation and Revitalization program," said Neal Miller, area director. "The completed improvements will ensure that the property remains viable well into the future."
Dan Payton, board president, accepted a certificate of appreciation from USDA Rural Development on behalf of the board of directors.
