Orlan Gene Fisher

Orlan Gene Fisher passed peacefully on Tuesday January 29, 2013 surrounded by family and friends at his home.  Everyone present enjoyed songs, stories, and laughs about a life well lived.  Nephew Jack Fisher sang him off in fine fashion with the song, “That Blessed Home,” written by his father John Fisher. 

Gene was born on the family farm west and south of Sheridan on February 11, 1932.  He was the last boy child of John and Gracie Fisher. He went to Lone Star Elementary School and graduated from Sheridan High School and Platte Business College.

Gene served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, The Bronze Star, The United Nations Service Medal, The ROK Presidential Unit Citation, and a Good Conduct Medal.  He was a member of the VFW Post and the American Legion in Maryville, MO and the National Rifle Association. 

Mr. Fisher had a deep sense of loyalty and respect for the United States Armed Forces.   After retirement, he owned and managed several businesses and real estate properties.

Dad maintained a close and personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  He was a beloved provider, protector, teacher and friend.

Gene was preceded in death by his father John William Fisher and mother Gracie Fern New Fisher, and by brothers Howard, Chauncy , Earnest, Raymond , Art, and  John and sisters LaVeda, Janice, Florella, and Gracie.  The Lord called his great grandson Storm Huey home in 2003.  Gene also loved many nieces and nephews who went before him.

Gene is survived by his wife Wanda Zimmerman Fisher, children Brenda Polachek, Mike Fisher, Greg Fisher, Brett Fisher, and Gina Holland.  He left behind thirteen grandchildren Shawn, Steven, Sarah, Florella, Fallyn, Brian, Tyler, Aubrey, Wayne, Daniel, Juliana, Walter, and a namesake due in March. Thirteen great-grandchildren, sisters Gladys Flora and Alice Rowland, and a “whole raft” of nieces and nephews will also miss his loving presence.

Services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Chapel St. Joseph with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors.  

Visitation will begin after 3:00 p.m. Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Dad’s beloved Calvary Chapel in St. Joseph.
