• Lady Hounds buried early at Smithville

  • Maryville's girls endured their lowest-scoring game of the season in a gruesome 53-16 road loss to Smithville Thursday night.
    The Lady Hounds totaled just seven points through the first three quarters and faced a 50-7 deficit going to the fourth. Maryville outscored Smithville 9-3 in the fourth quarter, serving as its lone bright spot of the game.
    Maryville went just 3-26 from the field and 1-24 from inside the three-point stripe, while Smithville shot 44 percent. The Warriors became the fourth team in the last five games to top 50 points against Maryville.
    The Hounds dropped to 5-15 overall and extended their season-long losing streak to eight games. In each of the previous seven, the Hounds had scored at least 30 points. They were two games removed from one of their better offensive games of the year against East Buchanan.
    No individual statistics for the Lady Hounds were available.
    Smithville's leading scorer was Bethany Pierce with 12 points. Abby Waters went 5-7 from the field and finished with 10. Six other Warriors scored in the game.
    Maryville has four games remaining in the regular season. First up is Chillicothe at home Tuesday night.
