Gov. Nixon to speak at Northwest

Gov. Jay Nixon will speak at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the J.W. Jones Student Union Board Room at Northwest Missouri State University. The event is open to the public.

Northwest's National Public Radio affiliate KXCV will provide live coverage of Nixon's address, and it will be carried via a live web stream on Northwest's website at www.nwmissouri.edu/live.

According to a release issued by Nixon's staff, the governor will discuss his proposal to provide Missouri's state-assisted colleges and universities with additional performance-based funding.

Nixon's fiscal 2014 budget plan includes a $34 million increase for higher education tied to the proposed performance-based funding model.
