Bearcat track closes weekend in Nebraska

Sophomore Zac Bendrick was the latest Northwest Missouri State track and field athlete to earn a NCAA provisional mark Sunday at the Concordia Classic.

Bendrick completed a successful weekend for the Bearcats earning a runner-up finish in the weight throw with a distance of 57-06.25. His provisional mark also was a personal best and is a top five mark in the Northwest record books.Travis Manning also bettered his time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.08 to win the event.

Teammate Tyler Shaw finished second with a time of 8.09, as the duo now has provisional marks of the same time ranking as top 12 times in the nation.

The Bearcat men also saw a first place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, narrowly missing a provisional mark.

Rashaad Scott, Kellen Schroeder, Porter Groves and Zach Dixon teamed up to finish with a time of 3:26.75 missing the provisional mark of 3:19.00.

Although there was not a provisional time for the Northwest women, Ashli Mosby was the closest as the senior won the 60-meter hurdles. Mosby finished with a time of 8.97, just shy of the NCAA time of 9.95.

The Bearcat women were also impressive in the 3000-meter run with four Northwest runners finishing in the top five, led by Anne Herbert. Herbert's time of 10:37.70 missed the provisional mark of 10:05.00 as Sydney Gress finished second with a time of 11:16.74.

Jessica Johnson finished just behind Herbert and Gress in fourth place at 11:25.19 as Amanda Cushing crossed the finish line in fifth at 11:27.63.

The Northwest track and field teams return to Nebraska Friday and Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
