• Hounds win third place game in Cameron Tournament

  • The MHS boys basketball team concluded the Cameron Tournament on a positive note, winning the third place game over Excelsior Springs 52-47 Saturday afternoon.
    The Hounds broke open a tie game in the third quarter, outscoring Excelsior Springs 19-6.
    Excelsior Springs matched Maryville's third quarter offensive output in the fourth, but the Hounds made enough free throws late to hold on.
    Maryville improved to 14-5 overall and finished 2-1 at the Cameron Tournament. Their three games were decided by a total of eight points.
    In the tournament finale, Maryville connected on 14-18 free throws, making 10 more and attempting twice as many as Excelsior Springs.
    Senior guard Treyton Burch scored a game-high 15 points and was 5-5 at the foul line. Jonathan Baker finished with 13 points. Trent Nally scored 11 points. Kyle Leslie had six, Ty Hilsabeck four and Tyler Kenkel three.
    Logan Schreier led Excelsior Springs with 14 points and Jordan Redman scored 13.
    Both players hit a pair of three-pointers.
