• Jefferson boys, girls routed in semifinals at North Platte

  • Class 2 No. 2 West Platte plowed through Jefferson's boys for a 67-31 win Thursday night in the semifinals of the North Platte Tournament in Dearborn.
    The 36-point margin of defeat was Jefferson's largest of the season.
    West Platte bolted to a 25-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and widened it to 45-11 at the half, creating a running clock in the second half.
    West Platte's Adam Roe scored 22 first half points and finished with a game-high 29, all of which was accumulated in the first three quarters.
    Nine other West Platte players contributed eight points or less.
    The Eagles (10-8) scored a combined 18 points in the first, second and fourth quarters. They finished with just 10 made field goals and nobody had more than two. Zach Jermain, Jordan McCrary and Tyler
    Merrigan shared the team lead in scoring with seven points. Kyler Farnan pitched in six points.
    Jefferson takes on the loser of Braymer and Mid-Buchanan in the third place game Saturday at 1 p.m.
    Girls
    In a matchup of two state semifinalists from a year ago, Class 2 North Platte controlled the action through the first three quarters of a 50-20 win over Jefferson Thursday in the semifinals of the North Platte Tournament.
    North Platte outscored Jefferson 17-6 in each of the first two quarters to lead by 22 at the half. The lead grew to 46-16 by the end of the third quarter.
    Jefferson scored six points or less in every period. Shanna Welch (eight points) and Jessie Henry (four points) were the only Eagles with more than two.
    North Platte's Maddie Roberts scored a game-high 15 points. Sarah Johnson and Courtney Kipping each had eight.
    Jefferson plays in the third place game tonight at 8 p.m. against either Plattsburg or Braymer.
