South Nodaway boys, girls lose consolation games

South Nodaway's boys surged in front of King City in the third quarter, but the Wildkats recovered in the fourth to claim a 46-42 win Wednesday in the consolation game of the Stanberry Tournament.

King City overcame a three-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter by outscoring South Nodaway 15-8.

It was the Longhorns second blown fourth quarter lead of the tournament.

South Nodaway faced a five-point deficit at the half but outscored King City 14-6 in the third quarter to lead by three.

The Longhorns were led by Dakota Murphy with 16 points. Zeb Coleman surfaced in double-figures with 10. Silas Nielson dropped in eight points.

King City's John Spiking led all scorers with 22 points. Ilya Stagner finished with 12 points.

Girls

Trailing by a point at the half, Worth County used a dominant third quarter effort to defeat South Nodaway 36-29 Wednesday in the girls consolation game of the Stanberry Tournament.

The Tigers had their best offensive quarter of 13 points in the third and limited South Nodaway to five points.

This gave Worth County a seven-point lead and the Tigers maintained it in the fourth.

Neither team had anyone in double-figures.

All six of Worth County's scorers had between four and eight points.

South Nodaway's Kristen Nielson and Allison Hilsabeck each scored eight points.
