• Mustang girls, Trojan boys lose in semifinals

  • Taya Lewis took over Rock Port's semifinal game with North Nodaway in the second half, leading her team back from a two-point halftime deficit for a 47-37 win in the Fairfax Tournament Wednesday night.
    Lewis scored 15 second half points and finished with a game-high 25. She and Allison Lawrence (17 points) combined for all but five of Rock Port's total.
    The Jays grabbed the lead away from North Nodaway in the third quarter and never gave it back. They outscored the Mustangs 26-14 in the second half.
    North Nodaway was held to just two fourth quarter field goals and five in the second half. Cambry Schluter led the Mustangs with 14 points. Alysa Lyle scored eight points. Brittany Bix had six.
    The Mustangs play Tarkio in the third place game Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Rock Port matches up with Nodaway-Holt in the championship game tonight at 8 p.m.
    Savannah JV 40 West Nodaway 34
    Behind the offensive exploits of Raven Price, Savannah's JV team upended West Nodaway 40-34 Thursday in a consolation game of the Fairfax Tournament.
    Price made 11 of Savannah's 14 field goals, 7-10 free throws and scored 29 points.
    No one else for the Savages had more than four.
    Savannah outscored West Nodaway in the second half after trailing by one at the half.
    Deanna Harvey scored 16 points to lead West Nodaway. Melody McGinnes connected on two three's and finished with 12 points.
    Boys
    Nodaway-Holt hung right with St. Joseph Christian until the fourth quarter when the Lions grabbed control to seize a 59-51 win Wednesday in the semifinals of the Fairfax Tournament.
    The Lions outscored Nodaway-Holt 22-15 in the final quarter and went 8-11 from the foul line. They finished 15-20 while Nodaway-Holt was just 7-15.
    Robbie Kaufman and David Beard combined for 20 of the team's 22 fourth quarter points.
    Kaufman finished with a game-high 28 and was 10-13 at the foul line. Beard scored eight of his 11 points in the final period, sinking a pair of three-pointers.
    Nodaway-Holt trailed by just two points at the half and one entering the fourth quarter.
    Derek Lemon and Stephen Schniedermeyer each scored 13 points to lead the Trojans. Brice Shamberger and Jackson Beattie had eight points apiece. Nick Patterson added seven.
    The Trojans face Tarkio in the third place game tonight at 6:30 p.m. Christian draws Rock Port in the finals Saturday at 8 p.m.
    West Nodaway 69 North Nodaway 55
    After matching each other point for for point in the first half, West Nodaway asserted control in third quarter and broke away for a 69-55 win over North Nodaway Thursday in the Fairfax Tournament.
    The Rockets held North Nodaway to 21 second half points and exceeded their first half total with 35.
    They made their greatest gain in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 18-8.
    West Nodaway freshman Jaden Gillenwater finished with a game-high 23 points. He hit two three's and was 8-10 at the foul line. Blake Farnan also had a big night with 20, all coming after the first quarter.
    Jonathon Madere scored nine points and Trevor Meyer had eight.
    North Nodaway hit seven three's in the game, but only one after the half.
    The Mustangs were led by Koby Reynolds with 16 points. Trent Coleman had 14 followed by Fred Rios with 11.
