Dr. Sally Bomar has been named the recipient of the 2012 St. Luke's Physician Recognition Award at St. Francis Hospital & Health Services.
The award, sponsored by the hospital’s Mission Awareness Team, honors physicians who best exemplify the mission and core values of SSM Health Care and St. Francis.
A family practitioner, Bomar graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1994 and completed her residency at Truman Medical Center East in Kansas City.
She was selected for recognition from among four St. Francis physicians nominated by hospital staff. In announcing the award, Joshua Allee, hospital chaplain, cited some of the comments made regarding Bomar's work:
∙ "This physician is involved in our community and has respect for fellow employees."
∙ "Dr. Bomar saved my life, gave me her home phone number and said call anytime night or day."
∙ "While working side by side with her, it is so hard to choose just one story because I have personally witnessed many acts of her revealing God’s healing presence especially at the end of life. I can’t think of a doctor on the staff here more deserving than Dr. Bomar."
The name of the award refers to Saint Luke, putative author of the third, and longest, of four New Testament Gospels, each of which presents an an account of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
In church tradition, Luke is considered the first Christian physician and is the patron saint of doctors and surgeons.
