University names new VP of human resources

Northwest Missouri State University announced Thursday that Carol Wisecarver has been named the school's new vice president of human resources.

Wisecarver will begin her duties on the Maryville campus Jan. 28. She fills a vacancy left by Mary Throener, who retired last summer. Since that time Campus Police Chief Clarence Green has filled in as interim VP.

As head of Northwest's human resources office, Wisecarver will be in charge of employee recruitment, appraisal, retention, compensation and professional development, according to a university release.

Wisecarver comes to Northwest from Novartis Consumer Health (OTC) in Lincoln, Neb., where she worked as lead staffing manager. In that role, she was responsible for managing recruiting operations for a manufacturing plant that produces over-the-counter medications.

Previously, she spent seven years with Home Depot in Omaha, Neb., first as regional human resources manager and then as a district human resources manager, roles in which she supported staff in as many as 60 locations across 12 states.

Wisecarver also served in human resources management roles with APAC Customer Services Inc. in Omaha and Qwest Communications in Denver, Colo.

A graduate of Northwest, she holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from the university. She also has a master's degree in business administration from Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

Wisecarver said she was "thrilled" to be returning to her alma mater.

"The University provided me a solid foundation to begin my professional career, and it will be an honor to support Northwest’s principles, values and vision to ensure the success of every faculty, staff and student," she said.

"It will be my mission as the vice president of human resources to support the entire University in meeting its goals through our most valuable resource — our people."
