GEEKOLOGY 101: Black Monday came & went and so did Crennel & Reid.

Yep, another sports commentary.

Ugh, Black Monday. If you are a football coach in the NFL, you really have to hate when this day arrives, especially if your team hasn’t lived up to potential.

Can you imagine being paid millions of dollars, then one day, out the door? I know I can’t.

So with the teams I root for, the Chiefs and Eagles, it has been a very underwhelming type of year.

The Chiefs finished 2-14 and have the number one pick in the draft. Something that a team shouldn’t strive for.

The Eagles weren’t much better with a 4-12 record after having a lot of the sports world pick them as a possible Super Bowl team.

It was obvious that Romeo Crennel and Andy Reid were going to get that phone call on Monday.

And if you don’t know, they did.

For me, as an Eagles fan, I don’t really like the move away from Andy Reid. Since he is the winningest coach in the history of the franchise, it is hard to argue with his credentials.

With Romeo, we were just waiting for the season to get over because you knew he was going to be let go. It was just a matter of when and how.

Though most of us, who follow the Chiefs, were surprised that a certain GM remained on the team, but that is a different column and I don’t have the time or the space to write all I want to say about that decision.

So where do these teams go, going forward? 

Most people will say that these teams are just a couple of players away from turning it back around again.

With this I agree.

For the Chiefs, it is all about the Quarterback or lack there of.

I can’t believe I spent most of 2012 wishing that Kyle Orton never left for the Cowboys via Free Agency, but I did.

Oh there are other positions that need work on the Chiefs, but until they get that QB situation worked out, they should focus all of their efforts there.

With the Eagles, it is all about the secondary. If they don’t completely gut the entire secondary, except for the Nickel CB, I will be surprised.

So looking at that, what coaches would want to come to either location? Needing a franchise QB or an entire defensive backfield?

Luckily for the Chiefs, they have the luxury of having the number one pick in the draft. Now I know that a lot of people have been pointing out that this is a weak draft for QB. I agree.

What it isn’t a weak draft for is Offensive Linemen with a plethora of OTs from Texas A&M going within the first 10 picks according to some mock drafts I have seen.

You could take that number 1 pick and trade for a QB with potential, like Kirk Cousins in Washington or Matt Flynn in Seattle and also pick up another pick or two.

Or if you felt good about one of the QBs coming out go that route.

It is a daunting task for the new Chiefs coach coming in.

For the Eagles, I just don’t see how you can replace four members of your secondary and remain a good team next year.

Maybe they retain a couple guys just as stop gaps or maybe they go and blow it up.

It is going to be rough, either way.

So my predictions on who will be the next coaches for the Chiefs and the Eagles for 2013?

Dream Scenario: Chip Kelly for the Eagles and Andy Reid for the Chiefs.

I think that Andy would love it here in this area and having the chance to develop a QB, ala Donovan McNabb, would be worth a KC visit. I would love the hire and I think Chief fans would too.

Now, if we can just get Pioli out of the GM office...
