NEN girls pull out win over Worth County

After sputtering offensively in the first quarter, the Northeast Nodaway girls picked up the scoring and rallied in the second half for a 38-36 win over Worth County Thursday night in Ravenwood.

The Ladyjays trailed by two at the half and one at the end of three quarters, but outscored Worth County 13-10 in the fourth to pull out the victory.

NEN scored 11 points or more in the final three quarters following a three-point opening quarter.

The Jays benefited from a big free throw advantage. They were 11-21 at the line, while Worth County attempted only five and made three.

NEN's Dallis Coffelt led all scorers in the game with 13 points. Kristen Judd had nine points, all in the second half. Holly Redden added seven points.

Worth County received 11 points from Claire Andrews.

The Ladyjays are off until Jan. 4 when they host Stewartsville.

Boys

With one of its best offensive performances of the year, NEN closed its pre-holiday schedule with a 59-46 win over Worth County Thursday in Ravenwood.

The Jays scored between 13 and 17 points in all four quarters and four players contributed at least eight.

Tyler Schmitz led the way with 16 points. Aaron Patton put up 14 points. Jacob Stoll scored seven in the fourth quarter to crease double-figures with 11. Joel Scroggie added eight to the attack.

Worth County's Bryce Ross led all scorers with 22 points, 20 of which came over the final three quarters.

Brevyn Ross scored 12 points.

NEN finished the first quarter ahead 14-5 and took a 31-17 lead to the locker room at the half. The Bluejay lead dwindled to nine at the end of the third, but grew again in the fourth.
