North Andrew girls explode past North Nodaway

In a track meet type of game, North Nodaway couldn't keep pace with North Andrew in the first half and lost 72-55 Monday night in Rosendale.

The Cardinals (8-1) exploded out of the gates with 27 first quarter points and led 42-26 at the half. North Nodaway held its own in the second half, but never put a dent in the Cardinals lead.

North Andrew had five players score in double-figures, with a high of 21 points from Danielle Chambers.

Shaina Pittman scored 16 points. Brinsley Oliver and Kensie Edwards each had 11. Autumn Hughes threw in 10 points.

Erin Greeley had a team-high 13 points for the Mustangs (7-4). Cambry Schluter had 11 points, while Leslie Birkenholz produced 10 and hit two of the team's five 3-pointers. Alysa Lyle (seven points), BrittanyBix (six points) and Breann O'Riley (five points) were the other main contributors.

North Nodaway's next game is Dec. 28 at noon against Newtown-Harris at the NCMC Tournament in Trenton.

Northeast Nodaway 35 Union Star 4

The Bluejays put together a defensive gem, holding Union Star to a mere four first half points in a 35-4 win Monday night in Ravenwood.

Union Star's scoring was comprised of one basket each in the first and second quarters.

NEN scored over half of its points in the first quarter and led 25-4 at the half.

The Bluejays' top scorer was Taryn Farnan with 11 points. Dallis Coffelt had seven, Jill Spire tossed in six,

Holly Redden netted five and Claudia Wiederholt scored four.

NEN's next game is Thursday night at home against Worth County.

Stanberry 37 South Nodaway 31

Stanberry gained the slightest bit of separation over the first three quarters and held on in the fourth to beat South Nodaway 37-31 Monday night in Stanberry.

The Bulldogs held an 18-14 lead at the half and took a six-point lead to the fourth that they maintained.

Stanberry hit three, 3-pointers in the game to just one for the Longhorns, ultimately proving to be the difference.

No one for the either team reached double-figures.

South Nodaway was led by Allison Hilsabeck with seven points. Andrea Henggeler scored six. Shea Miller had five. Leann Walker and Kristen Nielson each had four.

South Nodaway's next game is Jan. 4 against Osborn.

Albany 51 West Nodaway 41

After pulling into a halftime tie, West Nodaway was outscored by five points in each of the final two quarters and lost to Albany 51-41 Tuesday night in Burlington Junction.

Albany scored 30 second half points, including 17 in the fourth quarter.

Morgan Combs led all scorers with 21 points. Kristie Sorenson also scored in double-figures with 13.

Marissa Perkins led West Nodaway with 18 points. Emily Cordell scored 13 and hit a three-pointer.

The Rockets trailed 13-7 after one quarter, but wiped out that deficit in the second.

This was their final game before the holiday break.

Boys

With supreme balance and prolific long-range shooting, Albany overwhelmed West Nodaway at the offensive end through the first three quarters of an 84-54 win Monday night.

The Warriors (6-2) scored 28 first quarter points and 22 in each of the next two, spending most of the night on a 100 point pace. Their lead was 50-31 at the half and 72-45 going to fourth.

Albany hit eight three-pointers in the game and had six players score in double-figures.

Noah Wilmes had a team-high 18 points. Kevin Paul scored 14 points and hit three, 3-pointers. Rudy

Sagun finished with 13 points. Tyler Lupfer produced 12 points. Drew Cottrill and Drew Bain each had 11.

West Nodaway freshman Jaden Gillenwater connected on four three-pointers and scored 22 points to lead all scorers. Trevor Meyer added two 3-pointers and scored 12 points.

The Rockets are off until after the holiday break.

North Andrew 48 North Nodaway 18

The Cardinals scored double-figure points in each of the first three quarters and held North Nodaway to six or less in all four of a dominant 48-18 win Monday night in Rosendale.

North Andrew (8-0) went to the half up 26-9 and took a 31-point lead to the fourth.

The Mustangs scored three points in both the second and third quarters.

North Andrew's Zach Officer scored a game-high 14 points. Bryar Moppin finished with 12 and nailed three, 3-pointers.

Trent Coleman led the Mustangs (2-9) with nine points. Austin Reynolds scored seven.

The Mustangs are back in action Dec. 28 against Newtown-Harris at the NCMC Tournament in Trenton.
