  • After back-to-back wins, the Lady Hound basketball team had its momentum halted severely with a 57-20 road loss to Hamilton Tuesday night.
The Hornets bolted to a 23-4 lead after the opening quarter and outscored the Hounds in each of the final three by a combined 18 points.
Maryville dropped to 2-5 on the year, losing to a team it beat in overtime on its homecourt the year before.
The Hounds were coming off wins over South Harrison and Jefferson.
Maryville set a new season-low for points, scoring only 10 in each half with a quarterly low of two in the third.
Maryville's top scorer on the night was Baylee Scarbrough with six points. Chelsea Byland had four points. Blair Twaddle, Gabby Church, Chelsey McMichael and Rachel Auffert each had two points.
Hamilton's Elsie Greenwood led all scorers with 20 points. She was joined in double-figures by teammate Morgan Prather with 13 points.
Maryville has the next week to re-group before opening play in the LeBlond Holiday Tournament Dec. 27 in St. Joseph.
