  • Coming off a pair of dual losses, Maryville finished fifth out of nine teams at the Trenton Tournament Saturday.
The Hound wrestlers accumulated 98 points, one behind fourth place finisher Marceline with 99.
South Harrison won the team title with 178 points. Trenton was second with 133.5 followed by Stanberry in third.
Maryville had three individual champions and two others that finished third.
Sophomores Nate Alexander (126 pounds), Dane Hull (145 pounds) and Brendan Weybrew (285 pounds) each placed first and won all three matches. Seniors Ben Wilmes (132 pounds) and Derek Stiens (152 pounds) went 3-1 and took third.
Alexander and Weybrew have now recorded first place finishes in the team's first two tournaments.
"We thought we wrestled a lot better than we did Thursday," said Maryville wrestling coach Joe Drake. "Several of the boys came back and wrestled better or beat Stanberry opponents. The final two rounds were flawless. We didn't lose a match."
Maryville lost to Stanberry (42-24) and Albany (45-36) in its first two duals of the year Thursday.
Winners against Albany were Alexander (126 pounds), Hull (145 pounds), Stiens (152 pounds), Cody Jackson (182 pounds), Colby Jenkins (195 pounds) and Weybrew (285 pounds).
All but Jenkins won by pin.
Maryville makes its home debut tonight against Hamilton and Gallatin.
