Hound basketball teams sweep South Harrison

Senior guard Treyton Burch poured in a career-high 23 points and nailed three, 3-pointers to lead the streaking Hound boys basketball team past South Harrison 62-48 Tuesday night in Bethany.

Playing on back-to-back nights, the Hounds won for the fifth straight time and improved to 6-1.

Maryville received consistent offensive production, scoring between 13 and 17 points in every quarter.

This enabled the Hounds to gradually grow their lead over the course of the game.

Maryville finished the first quarter up 16-12, increased it to nine at the half and 11 by the end of the third.

Burch was at his best in the second and third quarters, scoring 15 of Maryville's 30 points. He had eight of their 13 in the second quarter.

Trent Nally scored 12 second half points to finish as the team's second leading scorer with 13. Jonathan

Baker was also in double-figures with 11 points and connected on a pair of first quarter three's.

South Harrison's leading scorer was Dylan Heitz with 20 points. Kaid Hendren finished with 18 points and hit the Bulldogs' only three-pointer.

The Bulldogs were just 9-20 at the foul line, while Maryville made 15-21.

Maryville's next game is tonight at home against Jefferson at 7:30 p.m.

Girls

The Lady Hounds broke into the win column and out of their early-season offensive funk with a come-from-behind 58-51 victory over South Harrison Tuesday night in Bethany.

Maryville trailed by five points at the half and three at the end of the third before passing up South Harrison (2-4) in the fourth quarter.

The Hounds scored 24 fourth quarter points and their game total of 58 was a new season-high. Maryville improved to 1-4 and snapped a four-game losing streak to open the season.

Maryville's top two scorers were junior guard Chelsea Byland with 15 points and senior guard Blair Twaddle with 13. Byland hit three from long range and Twaddle added another 3-ball.

Sophomore Ann Coleman also cracked double-figures with 10 points. Senior forward Baylee Scarbrough posted eight points in her season debut before fouling out.

Freshman guard Mollie Holtman and senior Chelsey McMichael each had four points.

South Harrison junior Kaylee Smith scored a game-high 21 points. Hunter Purdun followed up with 14 points.
