Ora T Smith, 99, Hopkins, Missouri, went to be with his maker on December 5, 2012 at Fulton Manor Care Center, Fulton, Missouri.
He was born in Scott City, Kansas on October 27, 1913 to James Warren and Francenia Moon Smith (child number seven with three more to follow). He served our country as an Aviation Machinist First Class for four years in the United States Navy during World War II.
After the war ended, he married Mary Magdalene Albright, on January 29, 1946 in Troy, Kansas.
He has been reunited with his two daughters, Katherine Lee and Joyce Elaine Smith, his wife of 52 years, Mary Magdalene, his brothers, sister and parents.
He leaves behind his two loving daughters, Roberta Brown (Trevis) and Carol Ranes Dyer (Jerry), five grandchildren, Devin Brown (Shana), Darrick Brown, Dustin Brown, Jennifer Ranes, Nick Ranes and three great grandchildren, Adrian, Austin and Shane Brown. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law and many dear friends, nieces and nephews.
Ora was a hard working family man who farmed the old homestead and worked as a meticulous carpenter, building many houses in Maryville and the surrounding area. He lived on the farm that has been in the Smith family for 157 years until the age of 97. He was a dedicated member of the Pickering Lions Club, enjoyed the outdoors, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, traveling and being a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. His honesty, his quiet reserve and his ability to make the past come to life through the art of storytelling will be cherished by all who loved him.
Please join us in honoring his life. Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Price Funeral Home in Maryville, Missouri, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 12. Interment will follow at the White Oak Cemetery, Pickering, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ora's memory may be made to the Pickering Lions Club.
