Five Hound players, Webb honored on state-wide level

Class 3's best team just keeps raking in the post-season honors.

Five starters on Maryville's undefeated state championship squad received all-state recognition, and head coach Matt Webb was named the Class 3 Coach of the Year.

Senior quarterback Jonathan Baker, sophomore fullback Brody McMahon, junior offensive lineman Jackson Morrison, senior defensive lineman Caleb Mather and junior safety Trent Nally were all first team all-state selections in Class 3.

Mather's inclusion makes him a two-time all-state honoree. The others are appearing on the team for the first time in their careers.

All five, plus 11 other Spoofhounds were named to the All-MEC team last week.

Mather led Maryville's hulking defense with 21.5 tackles for loss and collected 4.5 sacks from his defensive tackle spot. Nally picked off a team-high seven passes, one of those was a pick-six in the team's 31-14 win over Savannah.

Morrison, a Division I recruit, was the most imposing presence on an offensive line that dominated in each and every game this year. The Hounds rushed for over 4,000 yards and averaged 285 yards per game.

McMahon, a rare sophomore to make all-state, piled up 2,649 total yards and is listed on the team as an all-purpose back.

He was second on the team in rushing with 1,118 yards and went for 213 and two scores in the team's win over John Burroughs in the Class 3 Show-Me-Bowl.

Baker put together the greatest season by a quarterback in Spoofhound history, tossing for 2,215 yards, 33 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

In the team's second round playoff win, he broke the school records for single-game, single-season and career passing yards.

Baker also aided Maryville's ground attack with 365 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Webb was an obvious choice for coach of the year after leading Maryville to a 15-0 record and its third championship in school history.

This was his first season at Maryville following a six-year stint as the defensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana.

Webb is a 1993 MHS graduate.

The Hounds finished the year ranked No. 1 in Class3 with John Burroughs at No. 2.
