While the Lady Hounds picked it up at the offensive end Saturday, their defense faltered in a 57-47 loss to Platte City in the fifth place game of Savannah Invitational.
Maryville (0-3) nearly doubled its previous season-high point total, but also gave up the most points it had all year.
Platte City (1-3) put up 21 third quarter points, swinging a one-point halftime deficit into an eight-point lead. The Lady Hounds had their lowest scoring quarter in the fourth with nine points, preventing a comeback opportunity.
Platte City's Kristen Clemens led all scorers with 19 points, all coming in the first three quarters. Mickey Trimble produced 11 of her 12 points during the third quarter and hit a pair of 3-pointers.
Maryville received a season-high 17 points from junior guard Chelsea Byland who connected on three, 3-pointers. Blair Twaddle finished with 13 points. Ann Coleman and Gabby Church each had six.
Both teams struggled at the free throw line, with Maryville making 11-22 (50 percent) and Platte City at 22-40 (55 percent).
The Hounds are back in action Tuesday night to take on Savannah Invitational Tournament champion Lafayette in St. Joseph.
Lafayette beat Maryville in semifinals 37-24 Thursday night.
