Nodaway County has been chosen to receive $7,581 in federal funds to supplement local emergency food and shelter programs.
The grant was made through the U. S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and will be distributed locally by a board made up of representatives from the United Way, Salvation Army, Red Cross, church organizations and area social service agencies.
Local organizations eligible to apply for funding must, in addition to other requirements, be private non-profit groups or government entities with a demonstrated ability to administer emergency food and or shelter assistance.
Nodaway County has received similar grants for a number of years. In the past, the money has been disbursed to Community Services Inc., which has used the funds in support of local rent- and energy-assistance initiatives.
Other agencies interested in applying for funds through this year's emergency food and shelter program appropriation should contact Carla Summa at P.O. Box 328 Maryville, MO, 64468, or call (660) 582-3113 for an application. The application deadline is Friday, Dec. 7.
