• Lady Trojans gets to Mound City Tournament finals

  • Nodaway-Holt's girls played stingy defense over the final three quarters and pulled away in the third for a 48-27 win over Rock Port in the semifinals of the Mound City Invitational Wednesday.
    The Lady Trojans (2-0) advanced into the finals to play host Mound City tonight at 8 p.m. Rock Port will play Tarkio in the third place game.
    Up just two at the end of one quarter, Nodaway-Holt outscored Rock Port 28-9 over the next two periods to build a 21-point lead.
    Rock Port scored just 17 more points in the game after a 10-point first quarter.
    Megan Rosenbohm scored 10 of Nodaway-Holt's 16 third quarter points and finished with a game-high 20.
    Kalli Devers scored 10 points, all in the first half. Krysta Beattie added eight points.
    Taya Lewis was Rock Port's high scorer with 11 points.
    Jefferson 52 Northeast Nodaway 24
    The Lady Eagles put Northeast Nodaway down for the count early, outscoring them 23-3 in the first quarter and 39-11 in the first half of Thursday's semifinal game in the PVC Tournament.
    The Bluejays totaled five points in the first and third quarters and faced a 31-point deficit going to the fourth.
    Jefferson (2-0) advanced to play North Andrew in the finals tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Bearcat Arena.
    Northeast Nodaway takes on DeKalb in the third place game today at 4:30 p.m.
    Jefferson senior guard Shanna Welch poured in a game-high 20 points. Ashley Chor chipped in nine points and Brooklyn Stoll tallied six points.
    Jill Spire had half of Northeast Nodaway's total with 12 points.
    Boys
    Nodaway-Holt stayed close with Mound City the whole way, but could never quite get over the hump in a 51-47 loss Thursday in the semifinals of the Mound City Tournament.
    The Panthers clung to three-point leads at the end of the first three quarters and held off the Trojans comeback bid in the fourth to earn a spot in the championship game against Rock Port.
    Nodaway-Holt (1-1) plays Tarkio in the third place game tonight at 6:30 p.m.
    Mound City's Hayden Marrs led all scorers in the game with 16 points and hit a pair of three-pointers.
    Kase Newcomb also hit double-figures with 10 points.
    Nodaway Holt's Nick Patterson hit four second half three-pointers to finish with a team-high 15 points.
    Right behind was Jackson Beattie with 14 points.
    Jefferson 50 Stewartsville 39
    Facing a six-point deficit at the end of one quarter, Jefferson outscored Stewartsville by 24 points in the next two and coasted to victory from there in Wednesday's semifinal game in the PVC Tournament.
    Held to five points in the first quarter, the Eagles (2-1) exploded for 22 points in the second and limited Stewartsville to just five.
    A 10-point halftime lead resulted that grew to 17 by the end of the third.
    The Eagles hit five three's in the game, giving them 14 over their last two.
    Jordan McCrary knocked down three from long range and finished with a game-high 15 points. Zach
    Jermain finished with 10 points. Six others combined for the remaining 25 points.
    Dominic Fleeks led Stewartsville with 13 points.
