After two blowout wins to start the year, North Nodaway's girls basketball team lost a dramatic 45-42 overtime affair to Rock Port in the opening round of the Mound City Tournament Monday.
Both teams hit two field goals in the overtime, while the Jays also made three free throws to secure the win.
Rock Port led after the second and third quarters, but its largest margin was three points. North Nodaway got it tied in the fourth, scoring all 12 of its points from the foul line.
Rock Port's Allison Lawrence and North Nodaway's Cambry Schluter were the game's high scorers with 21 points. They combined for 34 points after halftime.
Lawrence, who had 16 after the half, hit three of the team's six three-pointers.
Schluter had 18 second half points and 13 of those came at the foul line where she was 14-16 overall and 10-10 in the fourth quarter.
Rock Port's Samantha Gindinge also reached double-figures with 13 points. She had eight in the fourth quarter and overtime.
North Nodaway's Erin Greeley, Sam Frueh and Leslie Birkenholz each had five points.
Rock Port advanced to play Nodaway-Holt today at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals. North Nodaway (2-1)
takes on West Nodaway in the consolation semifinals Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Balanced scoring and hot long-range shooting propelled Rock Port past North Nodaway for a 75-48 win in the opening round of the Mound City Tournament Monday night.
The Blue Jays placed four in double-figures and nearly had two more, while knocking down eight three-pointers.
Six of those came during a 44-point first half.
The Jays finished the first quarter up 22-6 and extended to a 44-20 halftime lead.
Rock Port's Eric Duncan led the way with 19 points and was 5-6 at the free throw line. Cole Wilcezek hit four first half three's to finish with 12 points.
Chandler Farmer and Austin Alitz each had 11 points. Alitz hit a pair of first half three-balls. Mitchell Minter and Jayden McMahon each chipped in nine points.
North Nodaway (0-3) had three in double-figures led by freshman Koby Reynolds with 16 points. Trent Coleman hit two three's and finished with 13 points.
Austin Reynolds contributed 12 points with a three-pointer.
