Unable to get much going at the offensive end, the Lady Hound basketball team dropped its season opener to Chillicothe 49-30 Tuesday night at the Savannah Invitational.
Maryville (0-1) scored seven points or fewer in three of four quarters, with a high of 11 in the second.
Two players—senior guard Blair Twaddle and junior Chelsea Byland—accounted for 80 percent of the team's production.
Twaddle scored a team-high 14 points and hit a pair of first half three's. Byland netted 10 points, all in the second half.
Conversely, Chillicothe was as balanced as it gets with six players scoring between six and 12 points.
Madison Williams was the only one in double-figures with 12. Maggie Graves (nine points) and Samantha McKiddy (eight points) were the next two highest scorers.
Chillicothe jumped ahead 13-7 at the end of one quarter and extended to a 24-14 lead at the half.
The Hounds played even with Chillicothe in the third before getting outscored 14-5 in the final period.
This was Maryville's second consecutive season opening night loss to the Hornets in Savannah.
Maryville plays either LeBlond or Lafayette in the semifinals Thursday at 8 p.m.
