• Trojan boys, girls open with wins over Rockets

  • Winning every quarter by at least five points, the Nodaway-Holt boys basketball team opened its season with a convincing 62-35 win over West Nodaway in the first round of the Mound City Tournament Monday.
    The Trojans (1-0) scored at least 14 points in every quarter and gave up 10 or less in all four. Their most dominant quarter was the fourth where they outscored West Nodaway 18-7.
    Nick Patterson and Derek Lemon shared the team lead in scoring with 16 points. Patterson put up half his total—eight points— in the first quarter. Lemon scored nine in the third quarter and made all four of the team's field goals.
    Devin Albertson pitched in eight points, including six in the opening quarter. Brice Shamberger finished with seven points. Stephen Schneidermeyer added six and was 4-4 at the foul line.
    Jaden Gillenwater was the high scorer for West Nodaway with 10 points, all of which came in the third quarter. Jonathan Madere followed up with nine points.
    The Trojans play either Mound City or Craig-Fairfax in the semifinals Wednesday night at 9 p.m. West Nodaway gets the loser of that game Thursday night at 9 p.m.
    Girls
    All-State guard Megan Rosenbohm began her junior season with a 30-point night to lead the Trojans to a 62-28 win over West Nodaway in the opening round of the Mound City Tournament Monday.
    Rosenbohm made half of the team's 26 field goals and was 4-5 from the foul line.
    The Trojans outscored West Nodaway by 10 points in each of the first two quarters to build a 39-19 halftime lead. Rosenbohm had 20 first half points, including 12 in the second quarter.
    Nodaway-Holt extended to a 32 point lead in the third, outscoring the Rockets 15-3.
    West Nodaway's Marissa Perkins finished with a team-high 20 points, She was the only Lady Rocket player to score more than two points.
    This was West Nodaway's first game under new head coach Dean Anderson.
