Poole finishes 87th at Division II National Meet

Fighting a foot injury the last two weeks, senior Brittany Poole ran her second best time of 22:04.2 and finished 87th at the NCAA Cross Country Division II National Championships hosted by Missouri Southern Saturday in Joplin.

This left Poole, Northwest's first national qualifier since 1997, 47 spots short of a top 40 finish needed to be an All-American.

Poole ran a career-best time of 21:24.1 two weeks prior at the Central Region Meet in Joplin and finished seventh. Had she replicated that time, Poole would've finished one spot outside of the top 40.

Poole was the third highest MIAA finisher behind Lincoln's Twishana Williams (33rd) and Missouri Southern's Rachel Schrader (66th).

Alicia Nelson of Adams State took home the individual title with a time of 20:03.3, leading her team to a third place finish. Grand Valley State took home the team title for their second championship in three years with 101 points.

Central Region Champion Augustana (S.D.) finished second with 104. The top MIAA women's team was Missouri Southern in 21st place with 490 points.

Northwest begins its indoor track season in three weeks.
