Allen Andrus, 55, Lenexa, KS, died Nov. 9 at Kansas City Hospice House with his wife Sue at his side.
Born August 12, 1957, in Medford, OR, he grew up in Salt Lake City, UT, and Maryville, MO. A 1975 graduate of Maryville High School, he excelled in basketball and other sports. He attended Northwest Missouri State University.
In 1979, he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Murphy. They moved to Kansas City, where he earned a computer science degree from DeVry University. As a systems analyst, he worked for major corporations, travelling the U.S. and Europe.
Their children are Katy Andrus, Minneapolis, MN, and Nick Andrus, Lawrence, KS. Allen greatly enjoyed coaching their softball and baseball teams when they were young. A runner much of his life, he once competed in the London Marathon.
Allen adored his wife, his children and his dogs. A lifelong Chiefs fan, he enjoyed golf, the outdoors, and family travels to Mexico, Arkansas, Colorado and California.
Other survivors include his mother, Jeannine Andrus, Cotter, AR; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Greg Taylor, Mountain Home, AR; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Michelle Andrus, St. Louis; brother, Nick Lewis, Logan, UT; mother-in-law, Gerre Murphy, Maryville, MO, sister-in-law, Marli Murphy, Kansas City, MO and brother-in-law Mike Murphy (Gaylene Durham) and many very special nieces and nephews.
After cremation, a celebration of life memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Lenexa Conference Center Barn, 11184 Lackman Road, Lenexa, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO, 64145.
