  • The historic Relic Chapel of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde east of Maryville is once again open to visitors following an extended period of renovation.
Hours are 8:30-11: 45 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend hours vary.
The Relic Chapel houses one of those most extensive collection of saints' relics and artifacts in the United States.
Among the more than 500 items are remains associated with St. Beatrice, a 13-year-old martyr who lived during the early centuries of Roman Christianity.
Many of the exhibits were gifts from European monasteries in recognition of the Benedictine Sisters' financial support, which helped rebuild communities destroyed during World War I.
Monastery officials suggest that visitors call (660) 944-2221 before arriving to make sure the chapel is open. Hours can change depending on prayer and holiday schedules.
