• Hounds ousted by LeBlond in districts

  • The Maryville boys soccer team had its season come to a close Tuesday night with a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Bishop LeBlond in the Class 1 District semifinals in Chillicothe.
    The Hounds finished at 9-16, losing in districts to LeBlond for the third straight year.
    Bishop LeBlond (17-3) completed a three-game season sweep of Maryville and play second-seeded Chillicothe in the finals Thursday at 5 p.m.
    Maryville trailed just 1-0 at the half, but gave up three straight goals in the first 33 minutes of the second half to fall behind 4-0.
    Jeremy Troshynski scored Maryville's only goal on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. LeBlond finished the scoring in the 79th minute.
    LeBlond scored its only first half goal in the 34th minute and its three successive goals in the 50th, 63rd and 73rd minutes.
    Maryville keeper Ethan Calfee made 10 saves in the match.
    The loss brought an end to the career of seven Hound seniors—Lane Hermelink, Dakota Luke, Zach Miller, Ryan James, Troshynski, Derek Luke and Andrew Wiederholt.
