Northwest Missouri State surrendered two goals in a two-minute first half span, and couldn't quite make up the difference in a 2-1 loss to fourth-seeded Northeastern State in the first round of the MIAA Tournament Tuesday night in Tahlequah, Okla.
The Riverhawks (13-4-1) advanced to play top-seeded Central Missouri in the semifinals Friday afternoon.
Northwest (8-7-3, 6-5-2) finished the year with three straight losses and four in their last five matches.
A goal by NSU's Elizabeth Cudjoe in the 19th minute and another from Lindsey Latta in the 20th minute staked the Riverhawks to an early 2-0 lead that stood through the half.
Northwest cut the deficit in half on Beth Walde's fifth and final goal of the season in the 56th minute. It was assisted by Tori Von Mende and Anna Calgaard.
The Bearcats never came up with the equalizer over the final 34 minutes, making it nine straight matches to close the year with one goal or close.
Northwest finished with 15 shots, six on goal. NSU attempted 18 shots, 10 on goal.
Northwest keeper Kelsey Adams made eight saves. NSU keeper Maggie Kloza totaled five.
The Bearcats graduate only two seniors, back-up keeper Shaylynn Durham and midfielder Amanda Bundrant.
