Bernella Rose “Bernie” Simmons 76, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Sioux City, IA, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012, at her home in Maryville.
Bernie was born on November 13, 1936, to Joseph L. and Frances (Eckholt) Perk, in Crofton, NE. She had lived in Maryville the past 50 years.
She was a member and loyal supporter of the St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville. She loved NWMSU athletics and the KC Royals.
On January 31, 1957, she was united in marriage to Delano E. Simmons in Sioux City, IA, he passed away on October 13, 2007. She was also preceded by her parents, her daughter, Brenda Simmons on April 4, 2010, and by siblings, Lucian “Bud” Perk, Clara Kleinschmidt, Mary Lou Goeden, and an infant brother, Robert.
She and her husband Del were the owner/operators of the former Little Chef Restaurant, and the former Simmons Village Restaurant, both of Maryville.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Simmons, Maryville, MO; grandchildren, Brad Simmons, St. Louis, MO, Jason Laws, and Tiffany Laws, both of Maryville, MO, Kim Klausen, KS, and Jenny Tennihill, AL.; and by siblings, Ann Sweeney, Ames, IA, Janita “Johnnie” Boltzar, Sioux Falls, SD, Donna Steckler, Yankton, SD, Betty Kaltenbach, Beresford, SD, Gene Perk, Yankton, SD, and Patty Kutcha, NE; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville, MO, the burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, also of Maryville.
A parish prayer service and Rosary will be held at 5:00 PM, Monday, October 29, 2012, with visitation to follow at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
