An 81-year-old Maryville man charged with a misdemeanor count of second-degree child molestation appeared in the associate division of Circuit Court Tuesday, where a judge entered a plea of not guilty in his behalf and accepted the defendant's request that he be allowed to apply for representation by a public defender.
Following his appearance, King was returned to the Nodaway County jail, where he was being held in lieu of $5,000 bond.
According to court records, King was arrested on a warrant issued Oct. 11. According to court documents, he allegedly molested a 14-year-old girl at his home on or about Sept 20.
The alleged victim reportedly told Maryville Public Safety Officer that King touched her sexually through her clothes.
If found guilty of the Class A misdemeanor, King could face a maximum penalty of up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1000. His next court date is set for Nov. 13.
