  • The Maryville Daily Forum has announced that Brad Slater has accepted the position of general manager.
Brad is the former publisher of the Rapid City Journal, where he worked for 26 years. He began his newspaper career in advertising sales and was subsequently promoted to classified advertising manager, retail sales manager and advertising director before taking over the paper's top post.
While living in Rapid City, Brad was an active member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and numerous other civic organizations.
"I'm very anxious to become an active participant in the community," Brad said. "My wife and I hope to quickly meet as many people as possible as we get to know our new home."
A native of north-central South Dakota, Brad grew up in a farming and ranching community of around 1,000 people. His family has owned a bulk oil and propane business for over 45 years in the same area.
Brad and his wife, Jennifer, have purchased a house in Maryville and say they are eager to grow and become active participants in the community.
"We're very excited to be in Maryville," he said. "I'm passionate about the roles newspapers have in communities for both the readers and the advertisers."
The couple has two children: a 27-year-old son, Tyson, who is the Middle East Business Development Manager in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, and a 20-year-old daughter, Kenzie, currently a junior finance major at Colorado State University.
Brad enjoys golf and he and his wife are avid hikers.  They are looking forward to enjoying the course and trails at Mozingo Lake Park.
