  • Jefferson's season and their streak of six straight playoff appearances came to an end Saturday with a 1-0 loss to No. 1 seed and host Stanberry in the Class 1 District 16 championship game.
The Eagles, who scored 25 runs in their first two district games, produced none on only two hits against Stanberry starter Riley Bremer who struck out five.
Bremer also scored the game's only run on a two-out infield single by Stephanie Luke in the bottom of the fourth. Bremer led off the inning with a single, moved up to second on a sac fly and reached third on a passed ball.
Jefferson got the tying run aboard in the seventh on a two-out single by Gina Schieber. The rally ended one batter later on a groundout to the mound.
Jefferson's Ashley Chor was the hard-luck loser, giving up just one run on five hits over six innings.
The Eagles finished with a 17-10 record, falling short of the playoffs for the time since 2005. Jefferson had at least made it to the Final Four every year since, finishing runner-up each of the past three years after winning the title in 2008.
Jefferson graduates All-State seniors Chor, catcher Jill Henry and Gina Schieber.
Stanberry (18-7) hosts North Harrison in sectionals Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
