Behind a first half onslaught reminiscent of their first six games, the Class 3 No. 2-ranked Spoofhounds began their grueling season-ending three-game stretch with a 34-7 win over Smithville Friday on Senior Night at the Hound Pound.
Facing its toughest foe to date, Maryville scored with shear ease on three of its first four drives and took a 27-0 lead to the half.
Smithville's Zach Parmenter busted off a 73-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the second half, but the Hound defense made timely stands from then on that prevented the Warriors from getting closer than 20 points.
Forced to play a full second half for the first time all year, the Hounds improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the MEC. Smithville fell to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the MEC.
This was Maryville's six straight win over the Warriors.
With its starters in the entire night, Maryville totaled 485 yards in the game and rushed for a season-high 397 with five touchdowns.
Sophomore Brody McMahon had a career night with 201 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. The second of those came on a 66-yard run in the third quarter to extend the lead back to 27 points where it remained.
Senior Peyton Mizera followed up with a season-best 138 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.
Derek Stiens and quarterback Jonathan Baker each had a first half rushing touchdown. The two nearly connected on a long touchdown pass, but it was negated by a block in the back.
Baker was 7-15 passing for 88 yards and threw his first two interceptions of the year in the first half.
Maryville's defense gave up a season-high 266 yards, but held an opponent to seven points or less for the seventh straight game.
They also limited Parmenter, the MEC's leading rusher, to 104 yards on 21 carries. Aside from the 73-yard run, Parmenter had just 31 yards on 20 carries.
Quarterback Cory Marmet added 48 yards rushing and completed 6-21 passes for 106 yards.
The Warriors intruded Maryville territory on all four second half drives, but turned it over on downs all four times.
Maryville defensive lineman Caleb Mather had a huge game with five tackles, two for loss, and a sack.
Chris Dougan led the Hounds with 7.5 tackles.
The Hounds take on the MEC's other undefeated team and their arch-rival Savannah Friday night in Savannah.
