• Lady Hounds sweep Benton again

  • The Lady Hound volleyball team crushed Benton in both sets of a 25-7, 25-12 win Thursday night in St. Joseph.
    Maryville improved to 17-3-2 overall, 4-1 in the MEC and swept the season series from Benton, winning both times in two games.
    The Hounds picked up nearly half of their 50 points from 17 kills and and six aces.
    Setter Alyssa Stiens rifled three aces and led the Hounds with 11 assists. She also had 1.5 blocks.
    Seven different players contributed to Maryville's kill total and the Hounds hit .158.
    Sara Knowles led the way with five kills. Chelsea Byland put down four kills.
    Anny Van de Ven, Aubrey Kimble and Gabby Church had two apiece. Church added a team-high 2.5 blocks.
    Jessa Stiens powered the defense with 14 digs. Kristen Shipps dug up six balls.
    The Hounds return to Benton Saturday for the Benton Tournament.
