  • The city of Maryville has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.
GFOA is a non-profit organization whose membership includes 17,500 government professionals in the United States and Canada. Its latest recognition of Maryville's comprehensive annual financial report covers the 2011 fiscal year.
According to a GFOA release, the certificate is the group's highest accolade in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its "attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management."
In addition to the overall city recognition, municipal Finance Director Denise Town received GFOA's Financial Reporting Achievement Award as the individual primarily responsible for preparing Maryville's 2011 financial report.
The release stated that the city and Town's office were "judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive 'spirit of full disclosure.'"
