After sweeping its opening round match against Cameron, the fourth-seeded Lady Hound tennis team lost in the Class 1 District 16 semifinals to top-seeded Trenton 5-1 Monday in Trenton.
The Bulldogs took five of six singles matches off Maryville to clinch the victory and advance to the finals.
The loss ended Maryville's season at 7-4.
Senior Emily Schreck produced Maryville's only match over Trenton, beating Jessica Tracey 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Maryville nearly had another victory at No. 1 that would've forced at least one doubles match, but Mara Veasey lost in a tie-breaker to Jaci Tracey 4-6, 6-4, 6-6 (2-7).
Maryville won a total of five games in the other four singles matches, all resulting in straight set losses.
Shannon Johnson lost to Maria Stevenson 2-6, 0-6 at No. 3. Abi Shipley lost 1-6, 1-6 loss to Megan Derry at No. 4.
At No. 5 singles, Dalane Goodall fell to Megan Sole 1-6, 0-6. No. 6 Sam Auffert was blanked in both sets of a 0-6, 0-6 loss to Magie Skinhoff.
The Trenton dual was a role reversal from earlier in the day when the Hounds won all five singles matches from Cameron in straight sets.
At No. 1, Veasey defeated Marcie Webber 6-2, 6-1. Schreck took a 6-1, 6-3 win over Laura Sloan at No. 2. Johnson swept the second set to claim a 6-2, 6-0 win over Whitney Parks at No. 3.
Shipley grinded to a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kiley Walker No. 4.
Auffert took care of Gena Sloan 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.
The dual was clinched before Goodall finished her match with Alyssia Goodwin at No. 5. She won the first set 6-3 and was leading the second set 4-3.
Maryville will be in action Thursday at individual regionals in Chillicothe.
