It's always nice when the boss invites you out for a meal, and that's what happened to 24 Eugene Field Elementary School students Thursday morning were who asked to attend the year's first Principal's Breakfast Club.
The doughnut-and-orange juice social was organized as a reward for teacher-nominated students whose behavior during the past few weeks has exemplified the character trait of "respect."
The snacks were served in the library by Principal Holly Brady and Assistant Principal Brian Lynn.
Lynn said the program is based on precepts formulated by the Northwest Missouri Regional Culture of Character, a collaborative effort by schools, businesses, industries, families and area communities to improve the overall social climate of the Maryville region.
Each month, a child from each of Eugene Field's 24 kindergarten-through-fourth grade classes is invited to have breakfast with Brady and Lynn as a token of thanks for living up to such ideals as respect, responsibility, self control, citizenship, compassion, tolerance and perseverance.
The word of the month can also be found on posters displayed throughout the school, and teachers integrate activities reinforcing each of the traits into their lesson plans.
This month's Breakfast Club students, selected for their especially respectful behavior, were: Sabrina Nelson, Andrew Willoughby, Emma Sprague, Ethan Gascoigne, Nyah Davis, Aleighna Keller, Skylar Emery, Wiley Conley, Jaxson Staples, Emma Lin, Chance Proffit, Abigail Seipel, Ethan Dudeck, Cassidy Kline, Halle Wilson, Caylor Dunbar, Kyle Stuart, Levi Germann, Arianne Skidmore, Cade Sybert, Ty McComb, Sarah Linthacum, Anna Miller and Abigail Sharp.
