• Lady Hound tennis team wins dual finale over Benton

  • The Lady Hound tennis team concluded the regular season on a high note with a 5-4 dual win over Benton Thursday in St. Joseph.
    Maryville raised its final dual record to 6-3 which is the best for the team in the last three seasons. The Hounds finished 4-6 last year.
    Maryville split with Benton in singles and took of three doubles matches which proved to be the difference.
    Mara Veasey and Emily Schreck improved to 16-1 as a doubles tandem with an 8-1 win over Lindsay Willams and Aubry Silvey.
    Shannon Johnson and Dalane Goodall won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles over Nicole Bonham and Hayley Spence.
    Benton took one off the Hounds at No. 3 doubles with Jaycen Wilson and Bobbi Thompson defeating Abi Shipley and Sam Auffert 8-4.
    In singles, Maryville's No. 1 Veasey and No. 2 Schreck posted 8-1 wins. Veasey played Wilson, and Schreck went against Silvey. Johnson took down Bonham 8-3 at No. 3.
    Benton won at the four, five and six spots, starting with Spence over Shipley 8-3 at No. 4. Wilson topped Goodall 8-5 at No. 5. Thompson earned an 8-1 win over Auffert at No. 6.
    The Hounds begin their team district tournament Monday in Trenton.
