  • Times slipped a bit for the Maryville Cross Country runners on Tuesday at Lafayette, but those who have ever driven or run the course at Krug Park in St. Joseph know why.
The hills at Krug Park would cause most runners to beg for mercy.
"This is always a tough meet for our runners," said Maryville head coach Phil Stone. "Even with a number of hill workouts prior, our times dip a bit here. Even so, the boys ran better than last week."
Zach Carmichael led the Hounds with a 23rd place finish in 21:08. Scott Shaw followed in 27th place with a time of 21:27. Right behind him was Dominic Mattock in 28th with a time of 21:27.
Kameron Schieffer clocked a time of 23:29 to finish 44th.
The final three finishers were Hunter Hawthrone in 47th place (23:46), Daniel McCulloch in 61st place (23:56) and Jackson Ackman in 65th place (26:57).
"The boys ran the hardest I've seen all year," said Stone. "Even with slower times I've never seen the kind of effort I watched tonight. They truly left it all on the course"
Maryville runs again Saturday at Savannah.
