Northwest Missouri State University's DeLuce Gallery will host its third annual national juried exhibition next month. The gallery is located on the first floor of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building across the street from Bearcat Arena.
This year's exhibit, featuring works by artists who use clay as their primary medium, opens Monday, Oct. 1, and will continue through Nov. 2. There will be a lecture and reception with juror Pete Pinnell at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 in Charles Johnson Theater across the hall from the gallery space.
Northwest Associate Professor of Art Laura Kukkee said Pinnell is among the best-known ceramics artists and art educators in the country, and that the exhibition is designed to "take the pulse" of American ceramics through a "a wide range of approaches by contemporary artists, craftspeople and designers working with clay today."
Pinnell was a professional potter for 12 years before joining the University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty in 1995. He is currently the Hixson-Lied Professor of Ceramics and an interim department chair.
In addition to teaching, Pinnell continues to exhibit widely, and his work has appeared throughout the United States, the Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, China, New Zealand and Australia.
He also writes on ceramic art, and has a regular column, "As far as I know... ," featured in "Clay Times Magazine."
