Mozingo Lake Golf Course is once again hosting the annual "A Round for Research" tournament, which raises funds for multiple sclerosis research and treatment.
The tournament, which takes place today, was organized by Kathy Van de Ven, who founded the event 15 years ago.
The four-person scramble gets underway with lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
This year's event will also include an after-party featuring the steel drum band Soca Jukebox. The party will begin at 8 p.m. at Burny’s Sports Bar and is open to the public. Anyone wishing to support MS research is welcome to attend.
A Round for Research raises funds for multiple sclerosis research and donated more than $42,000 to the National MS Society in 2011.
Over the past decade and a half the tournament has raised more $540,000 to combat the disease.
Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where Dr. Moses Rodriguez is conducting research aimed at finding a cure,
About 55,000 people in western Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska are currently living with multiple sclerosis.
