  • All I know is, yesterday I was still playing baseball on my little league team and now I am an adult with kids.
    What? When did this happen?
It just seems like time is spinning out of control and I can’t stop it.
It probably doesn’t help that I spend most of the week wishing it was Friday like most working class Joes.
But be careful what you wish for as my mom always used to say. Yes mom, point taken.
The reason that I bring this up is that it is already 2012 and my oldest son started preschool this week.
To say that I wasn’t a pubble of goo, as I dropped my little baby off for his first day of real school, would be an understatement.
I was stunned. Here there was this bright-eyed little man staring back at me that used to be the size of a football and loved to sleep with daddy on the sofa.
Now, he was worried about if his buddies were going to be in class today and trying to find out where he left his backpack.
It’s on the rack where we left it last night buddy.
So why do we spend all this time wishing our lives away?
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself that question?
Yes, work is a necessary evil but we shouldn’t want that time to just escape us without enjoying the time we have together, right?
I mean there are even days that I actually enjoy work.
    WHAT?
Yep, I said it. I actually enjoy coming to work and putting in the time for a good days pay.
Now don’t get me wrong, I find myself counting down the minutes to my “go” time on Friday, but somedays I just enjoy what I do.
But, unfortunately, just like most of you out there, it doesn’t always work out that way.
Whether it was someone cutting me off, a project that was forgotten and then dumped on your desk, or even the little preschooler waking up in a bad mood, something always happens to bring your enthusiasm to an all time low.
Then at work it festers and becomes what turns out to be a bad day. Could have been a good day but something happened to turn it around.

Throw in all the time I spend wishing for the latest Apple product to launch, waiting for the newest and greatest PC game to drop or even for Monday night’s geek night, and time just starts flying by.
So I am going to work hard these coming weeks to stop wishing my life away and enjoying everything around me.
Now it is going to be tough sometimes. I will fully admit to being a “wish it was Friday on Monday” kind of guy. Just ask my co-worker Tammy. She gets sick of that statement.
But I am going to try to spend each day enjoying what time I have left. Try to put some of the pressures and expectations aside and look around and enjoy what has been given to me.
Before you know it, the little one will be starting preschool too. Better start stocking up on Kleenex now. Until then, enjoy the day.
