Mercedes Spire

Mercedes Spire, 79 of Maryville, Missouri died on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Village Care Center, Inc in Maryville, Missouri.

She was born January 5, 1933 in Maryville, Missouri,  the daughter of the late William  and  Laura (Thompson)  Wilmes. She was  married to Phillip H. Spire, February 11, 1953 in Maryville, MO.

She was a 1950 graduate of Maryville High School.  In 1978 she graduated from the NWMSU Licensed Practical Nursing Program. 

Mercedes worked in the nursing field for over 19 years and was employed by St. Francis Hospital before her retirement.  She was also a 30 year volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Mercedes was also a member of the Business and Professional Women and was chosen as their woman of the year in 1993.

She was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and the church Guild, Maryville, Missouri.

Surviving are son, Mark J. (Deloris) Spire, Bedford, IA, daughters; Joan (Fred) Contreras, Shawnee, KS, Beth (Wesley) Parker, Maryville, MO, brothers; Bill Wilmes, Fred Wilmes; sisters; JoAnn Cordell,  Mary Luke, Patricia Schieber, Laura Luke, Dorothy Schmitz, Jenny Jermain; four grandsons; Travis Spire, Justin Valentine, Wesley Parker II, Colton Parker and one granddaughter Beth Meek; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Phil ( July 9, 2011), son, James Spire, brother, Jim Wilmes, and son-in-law, Craig Corrough.

Family visitation will be held Monday, August 27, from 6-7:30 PM at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, followed by a parish prayer service at 7:30.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 28, at 11:00 AM, at St. Gregory's Church.  Interment will be in St Mary's Cemetery, Maryville, MO.
