For the second time in less than a week the city of Maryville is dealing with a water main break. This one is located on West Edwards at the intersection with Dunn Street. City officials speculate both ruptures were caused by shifting rock and earth as subsoil moisture disappears during the ongoing drought.
The latest pipeline break was reported around 4 p.m. Thursday. Police were dispatched to the scene until a barricade could be erected around the leak, where water was bubbling up in several places through the heavily patched ashpahlt.
The earlier rupture, at East First and Davis, is to be repaired Monday, July 9, and will require shutting off water to residents across an approximate four-block area.
City Manager Greg McDanel was to release more information about the most recent break on Friday, July 6. The Daily Forum will have a full report about the incident in Monday's paper.
